Ain't no Spectator Sport

I am still looking for people to interview. If you are interested in sharing your story, then you should contact me and introdue yourself. At the moment, I am working on the transgender history exhibit, so I am especially interested in incorporating more voices from the follwing groups into the project

-Trans activists over 30
-Trans women
-People of color

Do It Yourself

This project may have started with one person, but I’m hoping it doesn’t end there. In order to truly become a community learning project, this oral history must encourage us to ask one another questions about our collective past. Help me make this a more collaborative project by taking your camcorder, your ipod, or your cassette recorder and interview someone in the trans community today.

Need help getting started?

Download a set of sample questions that have worked well for me. When interviewing, remember it's all about getting your interviewee to be comfortable and tell stories. It's good to have questions to fall back on when the conversation lulls, but I encourage you to wing-it. As long as you are interested in what they are saying, the interview is going well. If you want to read more about interviewing technique and more technical stuff, then here is a guide from NPR that I found really useful when I was first starting out.

Support our Costs

Even if you feel like you do not have the time or resources to contribute to the project by adding content, you could show your support for what we are doing by donating to cover expenses. Making this project available to as broad a public as possible is extremely important to me, and The internet is an amazing way to do that. Unfortunately, it also comes with bandwidth costs, server charges and web real estate fees. So far I have paid out of pocket for all of the costs associated with this project. Your five or ten dollar donation could go a long way in helping this site stay up as a resource to people all over the world.

Become Part of the Team

So far, most of the work that has gone into this project has been put in by myself, Andre Perez. However, I am looking to incoporate more community involvement both in terms of content and oversight. If you have ideas for the project, know how to do web design, are good at fund raising, like to make things that we could sell, or any other skills that might be of use, I encourage you to think about becoming part of the team!
